About the St Olav Drama Experience Package/strong>

The St. Olav Drama (Spelet om Heilag Olav) is the largest open-air theatre production in the Nordic region and Norway’s oldest outdoor theatre performance. It is staged every year during the St Olav Festival ( Olsokdagene) at Stiklestad in late July.

Throughout the festival, Stiklestad is alive with activity from morning to evening. Visitors can enjoy concerts, theatre performances, lectures, guided tours, a medieval market, walks and activities for the whole family.

The performance takes place on the actual battlefield at Stiklestad, where King Olav Haraldsson fell in 1030. These historic surroundings provide a truly unique setting for the experience. The story is based on both historical events and artistic interpretation, drawing inspiration from Snorri Sturluson’s royal sagas. The production is refreshed and adapted slightly from year to year.

In 2026, The St Olav Drama will be performed on 25, 26, 28 and 29 July at 7.00 pm.

The story takes us back to the summer of 1030. It is the day before the Battle of Stiklestad, and all is quiet on the farm of Sul. The small farming community longs only for peace and stability. Then a king rides in, on his way to a war he is destined to lose. Nothing will ever be the same again.

For more than 70 years, The St Olav Drama has given audiences goosebumps beneath the open sky at Stiklestad. Through a spectacular musical production, it tells the story of what happens to ordinary people when history comes knocking at their door.
